Hi Everyone,

My name is Andrea Kabacinski and I wanted to introduce myself as the religious awards counselor for Troop 410. My husband is John and my son is Simon who are both active in the troop. I just completed the training to be a counselor for boys who are interested in earning the Ad Altare Dei religious medal.

The Ad Altare Dei is a religious award offered through the Catholic Committee on Scouting of the Diocese of Rockville Center. This award allows the boys to explore their faith and foster personal and spiritual growth. It is open to boys ages 12-15yrs with at least 6 months of scouting experience and completion of 6th grade. The process of earning this award is through completion of a workbook, service project and monthly group meetings . The projects and activities must be completed by the end of April 2018 in order to receive the medal in 2018. If the boys do not complete the work by April of 2018 they can continue to work on the content and submit the book in April of 2019. Awards are given out by the diocese in the Fall after the Spring submission date. Along with the monthly meetings there are two events that the boys award must attend in order to earn this award. There will be a retreat offered by the diocese in Spring 2018 and on March 3, 2018 there will be a Boy Scout Day of Recollection. After the workbooks are submitted in April 2018 there will be a board of review on May 19 and a make up day on June 18,2018.

I plan to meet with any boys who are interested in earning this award at least once possibly twice a month at 6p on the same night as our Wednesday Troop meeting. We will meet downstairs in the church where the troop holds its meetings. Since we are getting a little bit of late start we may need to meet twice a month to help ensure we get it completed by April 2018.
